Jai Alai Savant and Young Vulgarians

Either I am obsessed with Unbreed Mannie, or something weard is going on in the world. I went to Doc Watson’s last night as Ralphie’s Jai Alai Savant were playing and the bimboy promised me a CD to get to Pete. He didn’t of course, because he’s a loser, flakey bimboy but I am glad I went anyway…

When I arrive I notice Unbreed Mannie sat at the bar and I think, “Ahhh, bollix, I don’t feel like talking to you today.” So, I strategically place myself in what I, dementedly, believe is out of his line of sight. A little while later, he stands up and I think, “HOLY FUCKING SHIT, HE’S SHRUNK!!!”

Technically, of course, he hadn’t shrunk and the person I saw before me was his bloody doopleganger. This guy played in the Cougars although I can’t see him in any of their photos, so maybe he was a friend of theirs. (Unfortunately I didn’t stay and see them play as I was knackered.) So aside from the fact that this guy was 2 foot shorter, he was the spitting image of Unbreed Mannie. Same glasses, same hair, same face, same frame. WEARD!

Anyway, on with the show!

Jai Alai Savant had a fill in drummer, I forget his name, but it was the drummer from Ted Leo / Pharmacists and he was really good. I noticed that Ted Leo is playing The Fire on September 9th, so I shall be surely going there. Ralph is a funny fucker. His little interludes between songs had the audience in stitches which was, unfortunately, the only time you could hear him as the fucking sound man didn’t have the vocal levels right. Poor Ralphie lost his voice toward the end of the set though and that was a shame. Otherwise, I really enjoyed their set.

When I arrived there was a band playing called Young Vulgarians. As I was paying my entrance fee, this woman came out screaming, “Now he’s hanging from the rafters!” I walk into the room and the singer was indeed, swinging from the beams of the building which his microphone lodged in his mouth and still singing! Ha! The sound was pretty fucked for their show, and a lot of their songs sounded really similar, but they are definitely someone I would check for again, if only to see more gymnastic activities. Beautiful to watch, full of verve and pizazz, but does their music match their stage presence? I’m not sure about that because I, like a fucking idiot, didn’t buy their Sassculinity CD, which is worth buying even for the name alone! To quote their website - “Young Vulgarians see themselves as the undertakers of techno-mediatic culture’s material byproducts and frequently give discarded computer and vacuum cleaner equipment explosively glorious funerals - final celebrations of the “being” of these objects before everything is smashed to bits and put forever to rest.”

So uh, yeah! To conclude I would like to hand out some soiled panty looking woohoo’s to Jai Alai Savant and Young Vulgarians in the vain hope that I can lay Unbreed Mannie to rest…

Strange Brew. Followed from Charlie Rose (PBS) in discussion w/ a Daniel Levi (fr) who was interested in Daniel Pearle which I searched. DPearle popped up w/ your ‘plaining ’bout porn hits (duh!) somehow. So if I was hoping for some sort of gruesome inspiration I found myself delighted w/ your work, your words are fun rants and your reading lists. Feels like I traded up.
Link to menses art by Vanessa…dead on. Liked the note she left about Kitty Hawk w/ is the only carrier I walked on during my shift w/ was just before they let women ride.
And I also liked the Erica Jong mentoring. I had been streaming NPR archives with CRose on in the background w/ is why the ‘puter was up in front. She was very cool, too. sending -
